I collected the data for the amount of steelworkers and ethnic background of these workers, and though I was originally looking to see the data on strikes and how it related or not to the amount of immigrants in the industry. The strike data I could find though is not detailed enough and I want to shift my research a bit. I am still interested in Unionization, but I want to make a table of the data about skilled and unskilled workers in the steel industry and also look at black steelworkers, and see how unionization effected them, and whether there are any patterns, and if how much discrimination effected unions in this industry. I will try to use primary and secondary written sources for information about the various unions, given that I haven&#8217;t found any acceptable tables or charts about this information. In terms of visualization, I can create a series of pie charts that shows the breakdown of steelworkers by ethnic background in each of the cities over time, and I can make a map, showing the comparative growth of the steelworkers in each city. I can incorporate the data on the various unions and their policy towards unskilled and black workers into the blogpost and perhaps into the map&#8217;s annotations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My project goals began with looking at the steel industry in Pittsburgh and the steelworkers, but I chose to expand my research to other major steel towns, to get a good comparison and to have enough data to build a acceptable dataset.
